An investor stopped replying. What does it mean?
Updated October 30, 2026
Short answer
Usually it is a pass they did not want to write down. Sometimes it is just a slow week, or your deal is waiting for their partner meeting. Send one follow-up with real news. If that gets silence too, take it as a no and spend the time on the next fund.
What the silence usually means
They passed and did not say so
It went quiet right after they read the deck or after the first call, and no next step had been agreed.
Something on their side moved ahead of you
They had agreed to a date or an intro to a partner, then went quiet. A closing, their own fundraise or a holiday got in the way.
It reached the wrong person
You wrote to info@ or to someone who covers another sector, and nobody ever answered at all.
What to do next
- Give it about a week after their last message.
- Follow up once, with news: a number that moved, a customer who signed, the date your round closes. “Just checking in” gives them nothing to answer.
- Still nothing? Stop writing. Put them on your investor update list and move to the next fund.
- If it went to the wrong person, write once to the partner who actually covers your sector at that fund.
Hi Anna, a quick update since we spoke on the 12th: our second pilot just turned into a paid contract, $4K a month. We close the round on December 15. Want me to send the latest numbers?
