What does it mean when an investor says “let's keep in touch”?

    Updated October 30, 2026

    Short answer

Almost always it is a polite no for this round. They do not want to schedule anything now, but they would like to hear from you if your numbers change. Treat it as a pass and tell them what you will come back with.

Three kinds of “keep in touch”

    • No for now, watching from a distance

No date, no question, no request. Just “keep in touch” or “stay close”.

    • Too early for them

It comes with “as you grow” or “once you have more traction”. They passed on today's numbers, and the idea may still appeal to them.

    • Interested, but not yet

They name what they want to see: a revenue number, a lead investor, a launch. This is the one worth coming back to.

    What to do next

    1. Reply in two lines: thank them, and name the milestone you will come back with and roughly when.
    2. Write again only when you hit it. One email with real news beats a monthly newsletter they never signed up for.
    3. Take them out of your pipeline count and keep going with other funds.
Example · A reply that keeps the door open
Thanks, Priya. I'll come back when we pass $30K MRR, which we expect in February. If anything changes on your side before then, I'm one message away.
