How long do investors take to reply?

    Updated October 30, 2026

    Short answer

There is no set timeline, but interest moves fast. After a warm intro an interested investor usually answers within a few days, and a cold email often gets no answer at all. After a meeting the next step is theirs. If a week passes with nothing, follow up once with news.

What slows a reply that is not a no

    • The partner meeting

Many funds discuss new deals at one weekly meeting. If they want to bring you in, your answer waits for it.

    • The season

Replies slow down from mid-December to early January, in August in Europe, and in the weeks of big conferences. Raising now? Try to get your first meetings in before mid-December.

    • The fund is busy with its own money

A fund raising its next fund, or closing another deal, has less time for new ones.

    • No reply at all to a cold email

This is the most common outcome of a cold first message, not a delay. Change who you write to and what you say first.

    What to do next

    1. Before a meeting ends, ask what happens next and by when.
    2. If that date passes, follow up once with one new fact.
    3. Keep several conversations going at once. A raise that waits on one fund loses weeks.
    Example · A follow-up after a meeting
Hi Tom, thanks again for Tuesday. You mentioned your partner meeting on Monday. Is there anything I can send before then? Happy to share the cohort numbers we talked about.
